"The Moult"
This painting was inspired by some plein air work done at Fort Rodd Lighthouse. There is something so courageous about lighthouses - out there on inhospitable rocky points, keeping sailors safe. Lonely places, beautiful places. On this day, there was also an elephant seal moulting on the beach - a process which takes about a month. It’s risky putting an animal in a big painting as it instantly becomes the focus. But if he or she can lie there for a month, it’s the least I can do!
40”x40”, acrylic on canvas, (2022)
